ENGINEERING POLYMERS

Engineering Polymers are widely used products, which are applied in several sectors: packaging, cosmetics, medical packaging, buildings, consumer goods, automotive, electrical and industrial

Acetal resin or POM (Polyoxymethylene) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer with excellent mechanical properties, chemical and wear resistance, with low water absorption. These features, combined with good dimensional stability and fatigue resistance, make POM a highly versatile engineering material (gears, fuel pumps, inhalers, furniture slides, etc.).

Main processing technologies: semi-finished parts extrusion, injection moulding, blow moulding

Applications: Automotive, Housewares, Toys, Thermo-sanitary sector, Industrial components, Medical.

Polyamide 6 (PA 6) is a material characterized by excellent mechanical properties, good processability, thermal stability, good resistance to aging at high temperatures, to friction and wear, good toughness at low temperatures and an outstanding chemical resistance.

It has a melting point of 217 ÷ 223 ° C.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding

Applications: Automotive, Electrical & Electronics, Sporting Goods, Housewares, Furniture, Industrial Components.

Polyamide 66 (PA 66) is a material characterized by excellent mechanical properties, good processability, thermal stability, good resistance to aging at high temperatures, to friction and wear, good toughness at low temperatures and an outstanding chemical resistance.

It has a melting point of 225-260 ° C and has a higher stiffness and hardness than PA 6.

Main processing technologies: injection moulding.

Applications: Automotive, Electrical & Electronics, Sporting Goods, Housewares, Furniture, Industrial Components.

ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) is an amorphous polymer produced by emulsion or continuous mass technology.

The styrene monomer gives the ABS good processability, the acrylonitrile the rigidity and thermal and chemical resistance, while the butadiene makes the product more tough and resilient, even at low temperatures.

Regardless of the production technology, ABS is a material characterized by excellent impact resistance and high toughness.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding, sheets & profiles extrusion

Applications: Automotive, Household Appliances, Furniture, Thermo-sanitary sector, Toys, Medical, Electrical & Electronic.

SAN is an amorphous copolymer of styrene with acrylonitrile, with a content of the latter varying between 20% and 30%. SAN is a transparent material with a natural tint tending to yellow, but it is also available in different shades of blue or transparent glass.

SAN is a material that is characterized by excellent transparency, chemical resistance, high rigidity, surface hardness and is used above all in applications where additional chemical resistance and a slightly higher temperature resistance than crystal polystyrene are required.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding, sheets & profiles extrusion, masterbatches & compounding

Applications:  Automotive, Household Appliances, Cosmetics, Thermo-sanitary sector, Consumer Goods, Housewares.

Polymethylmethacrylate, or PMMA, is an extremely transparent thermoplastic polymer, obtained by polymerization of the monomer methylmethacrylate.

Thanks to its transparency, aesthetics and scratch resistance, PMMA can be considered the light alternative to glass or polycarbonate, if high toughness is not required.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding, Extrusion and Blow moulding

Applications:  Automotive, Lighting, Construction, Cosmetics, Medical

It is a transparent material consisting of ABS and methyl methacrylate, with good impact resistance, excellent aesthetic appearance and good processability.

It can be used as an alternative to MBS, when a better chemical resistance to heat is required.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding and Extrusion

Applications:  Appliances, Cosmetics, Medical, Toys.

The styrene-butadiene copolymers are materials consisting of the alternation of polystyrene and polybutadiene blocks obtained by anionic polymerization. The material properties can be tailored by controlling the ratio of the two phases, the styrene component determines transparency and rigidity while the butadiene improves toughness and impact resistance.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding and Cast film extrusion (BOPS) and blow moulding extrusion.

Applications:  Packaging, Consumer goods, Medical, Toys, Office items, Dress-hangers.

Polycarbonate is an amorphous polymer characterized by a unique combination of toughness, optical transparency, stiffness, mechanical strength and excellent electrical properties.

It also has good UV stability, which can be further improved with the addition of stabilizers for outdoor application.

Main processing technologies: Injection moulding and sheets extrusion

Applications: Automotive, Appliances, Lighting, Construction, Medical.
